The Eisenhower Parent Teacher Organization

The purpose of the Eisenhower PTO is to enhance and support the educational experiences at Eisenhower, to develop a closer connection between school and home by encouraging family involvement, and to improve the environment at our school through volunteer and financial support.

The Eisenhower PTO is dedicated to making a difference at Eisenhower through both volunteer and financial support to our school. Every parent, guardian, and employee at Eisenhower is an automatic member and we encourage you to become involved with our many committees and attend our events. Would you please take a moment to look over our volunteer opportunities? You might be pleasantly surprised that one of our activities just might interest you and fit in with your busy schedule. We know that meaningful family involvement is a key to student success so please get connected, join the fun, and make a differrence to our students at the same time! We thank you in advance as we are so appreciative for whatever time and support you can give to our school.

The Eisenhower PTO is made up of officers, chairpersons, and members. When you volunteer with the PTO you can choose your level of involvement. We need the help of EVERYONE to continue to provide financial and volunteer support to Eisenhower students. Listed below are some of our committees, their chairperson, and some information about their activities. Committees have varied needs for volunteer help. If you have questions, would like to volunteer, or have ideas, please contact Mimi Holesinger at m.holesinger@mchsi.com or 590-6066.

Walk-a-Thon: Susan Tonn, Ashley Wood, Nikki Bechen & Meg Gilligan
This is a great chance to see your kids in action with their class. We will need help with organization prior to this fall event & assistance with set up, supervision, and clean up on October 11th.

School Pictures: Lori Kelsey
Help children get ready by adjusting hair and clothing for photos both fall (Sept. 18th & 19th) & spring (Feb. 19th & 20th); a variety of shifts are available.

Book Fairs: Deanna Johnson and Co-Chair Vacancy
We will need help with both the fall sale (Sept. 12th & 13th) and the spring sale. Many different shifts are available.

Memory Books: Lori Fisher
We are in need of a photographer for each classroom. This job is a great fit for a parent who likes to go on field trips and attend class parties - just snap some digital photos of the students enjoying themselves. We will also need assistance selling the books in the spring.

Staff Appreciation: Deb Lockhart, Janie Larsen, and Jamie Clancy
Donate an item such as a baked good or drinks to accompany conference dinners and holiday celebrations to show our appreciation for the staff. This committee has a variety of needs and is a great place to get started in the PTO!

Back to School Night: Jill Vanden Berge
Get started with one of our earliest volunteer opportunities on September 13th. We will have many different jobs outside to make the festivities run smoothly. The shifts are fairly short as we want everyone to have plenty of time to visit their child's classroom.

Field Day:Anne Kruse & Co-Chair Vacancy
This is held during the school day during the last week of school. This is a great way to volunteer as many parents plan to attend this event.

Spring Fling: Anne Kruse & Co-Chair Vacancy

The Neighborhood Resource Center at Eisenhower held its grand opening on April 24, 2001. The concept of the Neighborhood Resource Center was created by the Dubuque Community School District Foundation and funded through a grant from the Dubuque Racing Association. The center contains computers, all with Internet access.

The Neighborhood Resource Center is available not only to Eisenhower School families, but anyone in the neighborhood. The format for the center changed in the fall of 2003. It is now open only for workshops, which are open to the public. Entrance is through the door to the left of the main entrance on Spring Valley Rd.

No workshops are scheduled at this time.

School Improvement Team at Eisenhower
(SITE Council)

The purpose of the School Improvement Team is to involve parents in school-based shared decision-making. Eisenhower parents, staff, and business partners comprise this council. These team members work to implement the goals and objectives of the Comprehensive School Plan.

The goal of school-based shared decision-making is to impact the instructional program in order to improve student achievement. At the same time shared/school based decision-making provides a process to make informed decisions about the future through the involvement of school staff, parents and community leaders.

Decisions are made and changes implemented as part of the school-based shared process need to be in accordance with Board of Education policy, employment contracts, and state and federal law. At the same time, the process should encourage innovation and experimentation when this is feasible and appropriate.

When parents, students, teachers and community members unite to provide quality education for our students, a true spirit of collaboration, trust and shared decision-making provide us with the best ingredients for success.

Responsibilities of Eisenhower School
School Improvement Team Members:

  1. To attend school meetings at Eisenhower School, once each month.
  2. To be a part of the decision-making body on issues which have an impact on the total school program and site-based management.
  3. To gather opinions and ideas from members or others whom you are representing
  4. To communicate to constituents the actions of the team meeting.
  5. To attend training sessions on school improvement during the school year.
